Shantiniketan Campus
Explore Rabindranath Tagore's academic campus
Shantiniketan has a rich, illustrious history; it was once the home of the thinker of the Brahmo movement – a monotheistic reformist and renaissance movement of Hindu religion, then it became a spiritual centre where people from all religions were invited for meditation and prayers. Later Rabindranath Tagore – West Bengal’s best-known poet established a Patha Bhawan school based on the premise that learning in a natural environment would be more enjoyable and fruitful. After receiving the Nobel Prize in 1913, the school was expanded into a university and by 1951, it had become one of India’s premier institutions. Spend the day exploring the campus of Shantiniketan – with its student body engaged in a variety of artistic pursuits. Learn the history of the author-poet, Rabindranath Tagore and his brush with the British rulers, as you visit the house where Tagore lived and worked.
