Gwalior Fort & Jai Vilas Palace
Discover Gwalior's remarkable landmarks
Perched high above the city, the Gwalior Fort’s ramparts overlook the settlement, telling tales of the Mughal rulers and the Scindia dynasty. The approach to the fort has beautiful, huge carved statues of Mahavira dating back to the 15th Century. The hilltop includes noteworthy sights like the Saas- Bahu temple, the Teli ka mandir, and the Gurudwara Datta Bandi Choodh – each with their own history. Visit the Gwalior Fort museum which has a beautiful collection of semi-ruined sculptures of Indian gods and goddesses, unearthed in and around the city, which provide a glimpse of the Hindu pantheon. Then drive off to the Jai Vilas Palace, a lavish 19th Century residence of the former rulers of Gwalior for a glimpse of the regal traditions of the Scindia rulers.
