Bhuj
A festive city of handicrafts, dance & music
A city located in the western-most stretches of the country, Bhuj has the Rann of Kutch – a saltpan wasteland to its north-east and falls within the dry arid zone of the Kutch Peninsula. For all the desolation of its landscape, the people and traditions are a vibrant, colourful lot – with a rich, indigenous industry of handlooms and textile dyeing. Bhuj is best known for its festivals, especially the Rann Utsav, a three-month long festival showcasing handicrafts, music and dance, the kite-flying festival in January, and the Navratri festival in November. It also hosts flocks of migratory birds flying southwards on the Siberian flyways during the winter months.
