Dodda Basavana Gudi
Offer prayers at Bengaluru's landmark temple
In the heart of Bangalore’s urban bustle, is the Dodda Basavana Gudi, a 1537 AD temple, built by the Vijayanagara Empire and dedicated to Lord Shiva’s vehicle, the sacred bull Nandi. The monolithic statue of Nandi bull is supposed to the largest in the world – and devotees continuously cover it with butter and ask for its blessings. The Dodda Basavana Gudi is one of Bangalore’s landmark heritage sites.
