Banni Village Visit
Trace the tradition of embroidered designs
The Banni village, like many other across India, once had a bartering system between communities: the Maldhari nomads who herded camels traded milk and clarified butter in exchange for the Khatri tribes’ colourful textiles and clothes. Thus the arid landscape ran amok with colour and design – a tradition that is rapidly dying out with the advent of cheaper readymade fabrics! Visit the Banni village in the heart of the white salt pans, to get an insight into the ancient Banni embroidery with its intricate minute designs in gorgeous colours, which is considered to be the most outstanding and among the different types of Kachchhi embroidery.
