With a mixed habitat of marsh, grassland and forest, Dudhwa hosts over 350 species of birds – and it was created to protect the Bengal florican, with its delightful mating ritual of high jumps, among others. The noteworthy species include swamp francolin, great slaty woodpecker, black necked stork, great pied hornbill, sarus crane, maroon oriole, red avadavat, fire-capped tit, as also a huge variety of raptors, waders and migratory species.
