Margazhi Music Festival
A festival of music, dance, painting, sculpture and architecture
Named after a Tamil month, the Marghazhi Music Festival sets the stage for over a 1000 concerts of Carnatic music – a vocal, classical music form, associated with the southern states of India, as also classical dances. Katcheris, a word derived from Urdu, represents an assembly of artists and their audience – and numerous katcheris are set up for a variety of music and dance concerts. The festival showcases the different cultural traditions with the overlaying of foreign influences – as expressed through music, dance, painting, sculpture and architecture. It has increasingly become a magnet for culture lovers from across the world.
