Neo-classical Architecture Trails
Unravel the stories behind Mumbai's architectural sights
If you flip through the history book pages, Mumbai seems like the original multi-ethnic and multi-linguistic capital of the world. Mumbai attracted seafarers, who came in to trade the coveted spices, yarn and cotton from Mumbai to the rest of the world. The Jews from Baghdad, a colonial entourage from England, traders from Holland, merchants from Portugal, all of them came for business, but eventually embraced this mercurial city as their home. They left their insignia on the culture of Mumbai – be it in the way they lived, ate or conducted their businesses. A part of their culture that still stands tall for all to see, is the beautiful neo-classical architecture that defines the skyline of the city. Our trail takes you past this indelible history of the people and their colourful lives.
