Tansen Music Festival
Celebrating the singer Tansen through music
Legend has it that Emperor Akbar’s court had 9 jewels, known as the ‘navratna’ – illustrious people of great value to the ruler. One of whom was Tansen – the court’s musician of such impressive skill whose song could bring down the rains. Today, a 4-day extravaganza, the Gwalior Music Festival pays tribute to Tansen and takes place near his tomb in Behat village, where artists and music lovers from across the country converge to create and appreciate classical Indian music.
